Welcome to Born For a Purpose
About Me
Hey there! I’m Josh—a Christ-follower, husband to Lindsey, and dad to Ava. I’ve lived in six different states, served in the Navy as both a Navy Diver and a submariner on a fast-attack submarine, and after getting out of the military, I earned my Economics degree from UConn (Go Huskies!!). While building a career in banking and working full-time, I also pursued and completed my MBA, learning the art of balancing priorities along the way. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a biblical counselor, teaching in an addiction recovery ministry, mentoring couples alongside my wife, and volunteering as a discipleship coach at our local church.
In my personal life, I’m passionate about growth and intentional living. I’ve helped people sort out their finances, improved my fitness to the point where I’m stronger and faster than I was in my 20s, and honed my skills in home improvement and landscaping. I read 20-25 books a year, constantly feeding my curiosity and love for learning. And yes, I still enjoy experimenting with fermentation recipes, exploring the metaverse, bushcrafting with my buddy Walter, and keeping up with Gen Z slang 😬.
When I’m not at work or building Born For a Purpose, you’ll find me with my family and friends, volunteering in my church, tackling fitness challenges, working on home projects, or getting lost in a good book with a cup of coffee. As I’ve gotten older I’ve realized that every part of my journey has reinforced one thing: we are all born for a purpose — but it’s up to us to seek it, embrace it, and live it out with intention.
How Born For a Purpose Started
For years, I wrestled with the idea of purpose—not in an abstract sense, but in the practical, day-to-day reality of living it out. I had a stable career, a wife and daughter I loved deeply, and opportunities to serve in ministry. I was in great shape, disciplined, and, from the outside, living a life that should have felt fulfilling. Yet something still felt off. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I wasn’t fully stepping into what I was “supposed” to be doing.
That frustration lingered for a long time. I shared it with others, but no conversation seemed to provide real traction. So, I did what many do—I tried to “trust the process” and keep moving forward. But as I counseled men, taught in chapel at a local addiction recovery ministry, and had conversations with friends, family, and colleagues, I realized I wasn’t alone. So many people—whether openly or beneath the surface—struggled with the same thing. They weren’t necessarily lost, but they weren’t moving with clarity either. Instead, they were drifting into a life of routine—checking the boxes, but not truly living.
Then, in 2023, I was reading Proverbs in my devotional time, and it felt like Proverbs 20:5 leapt off of the page: “The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.” I had read this verse hundreds of times before, but this time, it hit differently. I began to think, what if purpose isn’t something we passively stumble upon but something we actively uncover? What if the key to clarity isn’t waiting for a breakthrough moment but paying attention to how we actually live?
For months, I wrestled with this, and slowly, I began to see purpose differently. It’s not just an abstract idea or something reserved for people with high-profile callings. Purpose is revealed through how we steward our time, decisions, and responsibilities. It’s not typically discovered in a single moment of clarity—it’s shaped through intentional choices, habits, and priorities over time. And if we don’t take the time to define what truly matters, our lives will reflect something—just not necessarily what we say is important. The more I reflected, the more I realized that many of us get lost trying to find purpose when, in reality, it’s something we uncover through living with wisdom, understanding, and maturity.
That realization changed everything. It led to the birth of Born For a Purpose — a way to help others step back, assess, and intentionally build lives that align with who they are meant to be.
Why I’m Doing this
I know what it’s like to feel stuck — not necessarily because life is falling apart, but because something feels misaligned. I had a life that I thought would make me feel fulfilled, yet I still wrestled with a nagging sense that I wasn’t fully living out my purpose. And the more I talked to others, the more I realized I wasn’t alone.
Too many of us go through life on autopilot — doing the right things, meeting expectations, checking the boxes — but never stopping to ask why. Why am I making these choices? Why am I chasing these goals? Why does my life look the way it does? We assume purpose is something we’ll eventually find, when in reality, it’s something we build through intentional living.
That’s why I started Born For a Purpose. Not to hand out generic motivation, but to help others step back, reflect, and truly see whether how they spend their time aligns with what they say matters most. Purpose isn’t just about goals. It’s about what happens after we achieve them. It’s about the direction we’re actually heading in — not the one we assume we’re on. My goal is to help individuals diagnose where they’re at, reflect on where they’re going, and build lives that actually reflect what matters most.
My Approach
Whether I’m creating content, coaching, or building this community, my approach is simple: be real, be relatable, be practical. I believe in small, sustainable habits and focusing on what matters most—our spiritual, physical, relational, and mental well-being.
At Born For a Purpose, we are guided by a core set of beliefs:
We believe every person is born for a reason.
We reject the idea of simply surviving.
We choose to live with intention.
We believe purpose is the antidote to imbalance.
We acknowledge that purpose is revealed in searching.
We are committed to the lifelong journey of discovering and refining purpose.
I’m here to help you identify blind spots, challenge what’s holding you back, and grow in a holistic way — aligning your time, decisions, and actions with what truly matters.
